Supporting Year 6/P7 Pupils with Secondary School Transition
Moving from Primary to secondary school is a significant milestone. For many pupils, it brings both excitement and uncertainty.
Pupils are stepping into new environments, building new relationships and adapting to increased expectations. While many feel excited, others may have questions or concerns and may not yet feel fully prepared. In fact, 97% of teachers report that pupils express concerns about moving to secondary school, and 75% say that half or fewer pupils feel emotionally prepared for the transition.
The myHappymind Year 6/P7 Transition Programme supports pupils in developing the confidence, emotional awareness and practical strategies they need to approach this change with greater clarity and resilience.
Through structured sessions, pupils build key skills such as recognising and managing emotions, forming positive relationships and setting meaningful goals. These foundations support a smoother transition and help pupils feel more confident as they move into secondary school.
Why This Matters
The transition to secondary school introduces new environments, routines and expectations. Some pupils may find aspects of this change challenging.
Supporting pupils through this period helps them manage their emotions, build confidence and approach the transition with a positive mindset.
