Accomplishment makes us happy!
If I told you that accomplishment or achieving things is one of the biggest contributors to our happiness would you believe me? Well, whatever your answer – it’s the truth and the science proves it.
The PERMA model which, we’ve been exploring and looking at over the last few weeks makes it clear that accomplishment is one of the greatest levers we have to creating happiness and wellbeing. This model is the product of decades or scientific research and studies, we can trust it.
Your to do list won’t cut it
What we are really talking about here is achieving those things that are really important to you. Those things that light you up, that you are passionate about. When you achieve those things (or when you work towards them) you will create a huge amount of positive emotion. We know that positive emotion is hugely important when it comes to creating happiness.
So, we are not talking about accomplishment in the sense of getting through the daily grind, we are talking about achieving your dreams.
How do I work towards my dreams?
One of the most common things we hear is ‘I don’t know what I am passionate about’ or ‘I don’t have time to pursue my dreams’. We get it life is busy and there will always be jobs to do, yet some people do achieve their dreams – so how do they do it? If you are really passionate about doing more of what you love – you have to make the time to plan it out.
A goal without a plan is just a wish!
When we take the time to plan out what we want to achieve and think about the support we need, we have a much greater chance of achieving our dreams. In fact, a recent study out of Stanford University shows that those of us who plan out our goals are 2-3 times more likely to achieve them than those that don’t.
